Polyester Tape Uses and Advantages

Oct 15, 2021

Polyester tape is a flexible, tear-resistant, waterproof, and impact-resistant tape manufactured. It was first used commercially in 1960. Polyester was developed because of the need for an affordable and strong substitute for natural fiber fabrics. The fabric's low cost and low-wear characteristics made it practical for industrial and commercial applications.

Tapes made from polyester have a high wear resistance compared to other materials. Therefore, polyester tape is ideal for use in abrasive applications, such as automobile bodywork and industrial machinery. Polyester's anti-corrosion and chemical resistance make it suitable for food packaging applications. In addition, the polyester tape is used in electrical and telecommunication industries for the purpose of conducting heat and electricity.

Polyester is excellent for applications requiring an ultra-smooth surface finish. It can be used to create smooth and semi-smooth surfaces for clothing, automotive, marine, and food processing applications. Further, because of polyester's high tolerance to wear and tear, the polyester tape is often used as a backing or binding tape for packaging applications, especially with sensitive or obtrusive packages. Polyester's moisture vapor transmission properties make it useful in protective covering for chemical handling. Also, because it has high resistance to ultraviolet light, the polyester tape can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications. Finally, the low cost and high flexibility of polyester tape make it highly useful for applications requiring a wide range of dimensions, including full-length and cross-platform tapes.

Polyester tape is also useful for applications requiring an ultra-high gloss finish. The high gloss polyester tapes can be applied directly to metals and automotive components for an extreme gloss finish. The high gloss properties of polyester tape allow for exceptional bonding and sealing abilities. Furthermore, the Polyester tape is a good barrier to moisture. This means that it can be used to protect against oil leaks, abrasions, corrosion, dirt, grease, and water damage.

Because the polyester tape is sensitive to high-temperature fluctuations, it can be used to prevent the development of frost heaves in construction. When moisture enters a building during the winter, there is an increased risk of expansion that will cause additional weight. As a result, frost heaves can occur. By using a high-temperature resistant material like silicone adhesive, the risk of this happening is greatly reduced.
